SL Toolset 1.0 SPS 17: improved Software Logistics Tools

This blog describes the new and improved tools in the SL Toolset 1.0 with SPS 17.
    You should be familiar with the concept of the Software Logistics Toolset 1.0 ("SL Toolset"), see

Overview on tools delivered with SL Toolset 1.0 SPS 17

 

Availability: SL Toolset 1.0 SPS 17 is available since June 6th 2016.

 

What's in:

  • compared with SPS 16, no new tool joined the SL Toolset 1.0

 

What's surprising:

  • Information on SL Toolset are beeing migrated to support.sap.com/sltoolset  (instead of help.sap.com/sltoolset)
  • SP-level for Software Provisioning Manager jumped to SP 17 to be aligned with SPS 17 for the SL Toolset

Offering

Software Provisioning Manager 1.0 SP 17

With software provisioning manager, get latest SAPinst version that enables provisioning processes for several products and releases for all supported platforms – get support of latest products, versions and platforms, including latest fixes in tool and supported processes + benefit from unified process for different product versions.

 

Changes with SL Toolset SPS 17

General:

  • Support Package version numbering of Software Provisioning Manager aligned with numbering of Software Logistics Toolset – so, latest version is Software Provisioning Manager 1.0 SP 17
  • Processes from Software Provisioning Manager 7.0x and 7.x support IBM DB2 for z/OS Call Level Interface (CLI) failover feature

System installation:

  • 7.x: Option for archive-based installation, where downloaded archives instead of Kernel media can be used, already comprising latest patches (for example, you can re-use archives downloaded for SUM via Maintenance Planner also for Software Provisioning Manager in the up-to-date installation procedure)

System copy:

  • 7.x: Option for archive-based system copy, where downloaded archives instead of Kernel media can be used , already comprising latest patches

Software Update Manager 1.0 SP 17

 

Offering

  • Consolidation of different software logistics tools into one unified software logistics tool
  • Runtime reduction: Higher degree of parallelization for certain phase types
  • Downtime reduction: Enhanced Shadow System capabilities for specific use cases
  • Combine SAP system update with migration to SAP HANA (DMO: database migration option)

  • Observer mode now available for all standard scenarios: ABAP and Java (in addition to DMO)
  • DMO to be used for upgrade & migrate SAP Solution Manager 7.1 to 7.2 on HANA (available on request),

  • DMO: sub progress bar is shown for some phases (like migration phases)
  • DMO Migration Preparation: illustrates table split result, available in menu Utilities

Offering

Scenario "Up-to-date Installation"

Up-To-Date Installation refers to an enhanced process for the installation of new system at any chosen stack level. The new improved process enables complete planning in Maintenance Planner, which generates a consolidated stack XML and archives, which are later consumed by Software Provisioning Manager and Software Update Manager.
