The Process Integration scenarios are considered as downtime critical. Therefore the downtime minimization for SAP NetWeaver Process Integration is in focus of the business continuity roadmap since beginning of the SAP initiative. In this blog I would like to answer the questions about the planning to ensure
near-Zero Downtime also for SAP NetWeaver Process Orchestration (Java Only).

What is realized so far?

Since SL Toolset SP7 the near-Zero Downtime Maintenance tool for SAP NW PI is general available in the SL toolset.

It is a special tool to minimize the downtime when implementing SPS for the SAP NetWeaver Process Integration dual-stack.

The existing downtime minimization capability in the Software Update Manager (SUM) is used to minimize the downtime of the dual-stack PI for EHP implementation and upgrade as well. Since SL Toolset SP8 nZDM in SUM for PI is available on request.

For further details see note1825209

What is planned regarding the Java platform SAP NetWeaver Process Orchestration?

The nZDM for SAP NW Process Orchestration will be based on the nZDM tool for SAP NW portal which is shipped in the SL Toolset since July 2013. It will be renamed to nZDM tool for SAP NW Java to indicate that it will be downtime minimization tool for the Java stack in general.

How does it work?

nZDM tool for SAP NW Java is a clone based tool to minimize the downtime. It is a proven technology as it is already successfully used by customer to implement SPS for SAP NetWeaver portal. The nZDM/Java tool ensures the data consistency between the productive system (source) and the cloned upgrade system (target) with help of a record and replication technology.

Planning:

- nZDM tool for SAP NW Java will support SAP NetWewaver Process Orchestration for patches, SPS implementation, EHP and Upgrades for source release NW 7.31 or higher.

- nZDM for BPM is planned to be available end of Q1/2014

- nZDM for AEX is planned to be available in Q3/2014

All planning information are based on the current state of planning in October 2013 and can be changed by SAP at any time.

A customer engagement initiative ensures a close cooperation and direct feedback from our customers.

We are looking forward to complete the supported scenarios for SAP NetWeaver Process Integration.
